Ordained, Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 Georgy Rock, maggid Georgy's journey has been and still is an ecumenical and community effort encompassing long-time partnerships with a diverse group of organizations and businesses where she has performed music and told stories over the years, including Clayton United Methodist Church; Catholic Supply of St. Louis, where she has been offering Tiny Tot Storytime for eight years; and Unity Church of Peace in South County, where she has offered a monthly music and sacred storytelling program called "Evening Lights." In addition, Rock was the "story lady" at Clayton’s Library Ltd. and for “Jazzy Storytime” at Brandt's Market & Cafe in University City, a Monday night tradition for many years that was created by Rock and Jay Brandt as a “child friendly place to dine with little people,” she says. Rock has been well known in the St. Louis area as an "interfaith troubadour" since her arrival here in 1982 and performs regularly for services at a wide variety of churches and congregations. More About Georgy Rock Georgy Rock has performed both locally and nationally in churches, clubs, coffeehouses and theaters. She has released several independent collections of music, including “My Father’s Child,” “The Prince of Everything,” and her most recent CD, “Heavenward.” In addition, she sang on a DVD project about pet loss titled “I’ll See You in Heaven My Friend,” and also performed on the Emmy Award-winning documentary film, “The World’s Greatest Fair,” produced by Civil Pictures. Rock started her professional career as a child television actor in Las Vegas as “Private George” on the after-school show, “Colonel Frank and His Talking Rooster, Clyde.” She’s been entertaining ever since, including a short stint with the folk-rock band The London Phogg on A&M Records. She is the daughter of a dancer and famed trumpeter and singer George Rock (who played with band leader Spike Jones and performed the child-like voice in the classic holiday song, “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth.”) press release written by Steve Givens |
